our story

Dexter and Amanda met online on Dexter’s 24th birthday. After exchanging a series of essays on the barbarism and civilization surrounding World War I, they agreed to meet for drinks at the Cruise Room located in the Oxford Hotel to properly discuss in person. They immediately connected over their shared appreciation of history, economy games, and breakfast food. What ensued was an eclectic courtship replete with trips to specialty museums, nights at the ballet, diner food, and debates over cocktails with unpronounceable ingredients. By the end of February, the two became an official couple. Two years later, they moved in together.

They arrived at a major milestone in November 2018 when the duration of their relationship exceeded the average length of adult relationships. To celebrate their above averageness, they travelled to Kansas City, Missouri to visit the American WWI Museum coincidentally during the centennial celebration of Armistice Day.

In October 2019, they adopted their adorable tortie ragdoll cat from the Denver Animal Shelter and named her ‘Admiral’ after one of Dexter’s favorite historical figures, Admiral Horatio Nelson.

After five amazing years, Amanda proposed. She combined Dexter’s dream proposal (to receive an engagement hat) and dream birthday (to eat at Panda Express) into one incredible night. In lieu of a hat, Amanda had commissioned a local artist to re-create Admiral Nelson’s famous hat pin, a diamond chelengk awarded to him by the sultan of the Ottoman Empire in 1798 after defeating Napoleon in the Battle of the Nile. The ‘question’ was packaged into a fortune cookie and slipped into the Panda Express takeout bag.

Amanda and Dexter are excited to announce their plans to wed in December 2021 at the place where it all started – (No, not the internet!) The Oxford Hotel.
